Delivery and returns

Everything I can tell you before you decide, in plain words.

Paying

Paying by card on the site is not switched on yet, so for the moment I arrange each sale with you directly. Write to me about the piece you want and I will confirm it is still here, tell you what the postage comes to, and send you a way to pay. Nothing is ever charged until you have agreed the full amount.

Where I post to

Canada and the United States. Everything goes out from Canada. If you are somewhere else and you have fallen for something, do write anyway — I will find out what it would cost, I just cannot promise it in advance.

What delivery costs

For ordinary parcels, delivery is included in the price you see, so there is nothing extra to pay. At the checkout the delivery line is shown as included and the total is exactly the asking price.

Large, heavy or very fragile pieces — furniture, a big mirror, a standing clock — are the exception. They cannot go in an ordinary parcel, so please write to me before buying and I will quote the carriage honestly, or arrange for you to collect it. If you have already paid for something I cannot post safely, I will tell you at once and refund you in full.

How long it takes

I pack and post within three working days, usually sooner, and I email you to say it has gone. From there it is typically a few days within Canada and one to two weeks to the United States. Parcels to the United States may attract duty or customs charges on arrival; those are set by your own country, and are not something I can pay or predict.

Packing

Everything is wrapped by hand, by me. Glass and china are double-boxed with plenty of padding, because something that has survived a hundred years ought to survive the post as well. I reuse good packing materials where I can, so your parcel may well arrive in a box that has had a previous life.

If it arrives broken

Tell me within seven days, with a photograph of the damage and of the packaging. I will put it right — a full refund, or the cost of repair, whichever you would rather. You do not have to argue with a carrier on my behalf; that is my job.

If it is not as described

Also within seven days. If a piece is not what I said it was, send it back and I will refund the price and your return postage in full. That is the promise behind every description on this site.

If you simply changed your mind

Write to me within fourteen days of it arriving. Send it back packed as carefully as it came and in the same condition, and I will refund what you paid for the piece. The return postage is yours in that case, and please do insure it — these things are not replaceable.

Because every piece is one of a kind, a return is always a refund rather than a replacement. There is no second one in the back.

Sales tax

I am one person selling my own finds, and the price you see is the price you pay: no sales tax is added at the checkout. If that ever has to change, it will appear as its own line before you confirm — never afterwards.

Still unsure?

Then ask. More photographs, a measurement, a closer look at a mark, whether a thing would survive the journey to you — all fair questions, and I answer every note myself.
