Victorian Mourning Brooch

c. 1870 · England

$275 CAD

This piece is available at $275 CAD. Delivery anywhere in Canada is already in that price — there is nothing extra to pay.

Paying by card on the site is not switched on yet, so I arrange each sale myself: write to me and I will confirm the piece is still here, photograph it for you, put it on hold while you think, and tell you how to pay. I will say in that note exactly how to pay and what the total is, and nothing is paid until you have agreed it. I will never ask you for a card number, and I will never ask you to pay in gift cards.

I am Sally, and I answer every message myself, usually within a day or two. If you need it by a particular day — a birthday, a wedding — tell me the date in your note and I will say straight away whether it can be done. Outside Canada? Write anyway and I will quote the carriage honestly before you commit to anything.

About this piece

A jet and gold-filled mourning brooch with a woven hair panel behind glass, set in a scalloped frame. The glass is original and has a small bubble in one corner. The pin and catch are sound and close properly.

Where it came from

Mourning jewellery unsettles some people and fascinates others. Somebody wore this every day for a year to tell the world who they had lost, and here it still is.
